When it comes to building high-performing teams, our statistically validated causal model and high-performing teams framework has allowed us to wrangle the significant complexity that is teams into two key areas – Drivers and Results. 

Drivers

Drivers are the three high level areas where actions can be taken to improve team performance:

  • Internal Context: the inputs within the team. Including why the team exists, what the team is tasked with achieving, and the roles and responsibilities of team members.
  • External Context: the inputs external to the team, including the team’s relationship with its stakeholders, the broader organisation and the external environment.
  • Processes: how the team carries out their work, the activities the team does together and the contributions that each individual makes to the team.
Results

Results are the two high-level areas where teams can see how effective they are at addressing the drivers to create high performance:

  • Outcomes: how effectively team achieves the core outcomes of top teams; goal achievement, group effectiveness and individual experience.
  • Dynamics: the aspects of team performance that emerge over time from the interaction of team members. These dynamics describe how it feels being part of the team and include feelings of inclusion, resilience, trust and cohesion
