In our 20+ of experience, we’ve noticed that being successful as a team coach is most often the result of your facilitation skills as a coach, your gut and experience. Entering into a coaching relationship with a team can be filled with uncertainty and not knowing if the coaching will be successful.
Recognising this gap, our ambition was to provide great coaches with an evidence-based model that increases the likelihood of a great outcome and reduces the uncertainty in the beginning. To realise this, we collaborated with Monash University in 2018 to create TopTeams—a comprehensive, evidence-based solution designed to transform ordinary groups into high-performing units.

Introduction to TopTeams
Half a day training covering:
- The TopTeams story
- The TopTeams Model and diagnostic tool
- Working with teams, including reports and toolkit
- Test team case study – finish with individual questions for reflections
Coaching using TopTeams
Half a day training covering:
- Questions from part 1
- Test team case study continued
- Working as a Team Coach and Facilitator, including war stories and troubleshooting
- Working as a coach with TopTeams, including expectations, responsibilities and support
1:1 Live team support
- We work with you to sell your first TopTeams team or incorporate it into an existing team you are coaching
- Work together on a live team, either behind the scenes or as part of your coaching team
- Provide TopTeams support throughout the coaching process
- Accredit your as a TopTeams coach
Ongoing Support
- Ongoing access to TopTeams as an accredited coach
- Ongoing support available to you as an accredited coach
- Contributing to the science of actions and outcomes
- Regular peer learning with all accredited coaches
The TopTeams process when working with teams
We have a tried and tested process when working with teams over four phases of define, diagnose, design and deliver. We encourage you to use this process or incorporate it into your own established processes. Across the 4Ds below, we have flagged the steps that we will done on your behalf with a TT.
Define
- Clarify the objectives and specific context for each team
- Confirm the team members and any internal sub-structures
- Onboard the team (TT)
Diagnose
- Hold kick-off session
- Complete the online assessment
- Create custom team report (TT)
- De-brief the Team Lead on their teams scores and priority focus areas
Design
Depending on the agreed approach either:
- Hand over a team roadmap template and toolkit
- Complete a team de-brief and improvement roadmap workshop
Deliver
- Each team implements their roadmap
- We email check-in with the Team Lead every 2 months
- Complete any agreed coaching
- Complete a 6-month re-measure (TT)
